How to succeed working at home

If you are working from home either in a home-based business or through an employer, these tips will help you be successful and productive.
Define Your Workspace:
Make sure you have a specific space in your house that is designated as your workspace. This can be an office room, a spare bedroom or a bonus room in your house. If you do not have an entire room that can be used as an office, find a corner in which you can put a desk or table which can hold your computer and other supplies.
Establish a Schedule:
While your schedule may be more flexible when you work from home, you need to make certain that you establish a work schedule and stick to it. Set a time everyday in which your workday begins so you don't get distracted by the myriad of things there are to do around the house. Also, set hours during the day that you're available to clients or coworkers. You should also set a time to stop working everyday so you don't feel like you are always "at work."
Limit Distractions:
When working at home, it's easy to be distracted by the television, by food in the kitchen, by household chores that need to be done, and by pets who want your attention. When establishing your workspace, look for someplace in the house where you can limit your exposure to these distractions. While a room with a door that can be closed is great, a corner in the basement, bedroom or sunroom can also work.
Look for Networking Groups:
Part of the benefit of working in an office outside the home is the social contact or networking with others in your industry or company. Without that contact, it can get lonely working from your home. While you can probably take your laptop and find a coffee shop to work from just to hear other adults speaking, you can also look for organized groups of home-based business owners or home-based employees. Call your local chamber of commerce or do a search online for organized groups. If you don't find any groups, think about organizing your own. Not only can these groups offer social contact, but they can be a valuable networking resource and a source of information and advice.
Working from home can be good for you and good for your family. These tips should help you work from home successfully.
