5 Tips if you want to telecommute


Telecommuting is GREAT if your employer allows it and if you do it properly. In fact some studies show that you get MORE done when you save an hour on the train to work and an hour on the train from work, skip the obligatory “lunches” and just work in the quietness of your home office.

1. Ease Into It
Requesting to telecommute may cause your manager to be concerned about your productivity. Suggest telecommuting starting at one day per week, and then finish off several projects on day one to show how focused you are. Once you’ve proven that you are more productive working from home than you are in the office, your manager will be much more likely to agree to it in the future.
2. Consider Company Benefits
When back in the office, remind your manager how working from home benefitted the company. For example, telecommuting allowed you to avoid morning traffic and start your day earlier than usual. This leads to greater productivity and more deadlines met.
3. Constant Communication is Essential
Always stay in constant contact with the office. Though you are working from home, your co-workers should never feel as if you are far away. Consider having your office phone calls forwarded to your home number – but make sure that you have an appropriate voicemail message. Set up reliable remote software like TeamViewer so that you can easily interact with your work computer from home. Nothing will sour your colleagues to your new work schedule faster than having to do extra work because you’re not there.
4. Stay On Top of Your Work
Though this is apparent, do not fall behind on deadlines. The last thing you want is your manager attributing a lack of productivity to your flexible schedule.
5. Have a “Second-in-Command”
As in any workplace, urgent matters will always arise. Telecommuting may lead to situations where you are unavailable during certain hours. Make sure to designate someone who will take over your role during times you are unavailable. This person should be able to momentarily handle your responsibility until you return

This is a remote position where you would enter data such as title, date, time, contestant/nominee names, pictures, etc. and then grade who got eliminated from a Reality TV show or who won Award show categories. You would also be in charge of monitoring when new seasons of existing shows begin and when new shows premier. 5 hours per week is the average work load. Please note that while shows can be loaded during regular business hours, grading of shows happen during broadcast or immediately following broadcast. While there are exceptions grading is usually between 8-11:30PM EST and can be on weekends.


SSRS Report Developer (Virtual office)
The Report Developer is responsible for creating and maintaining multiple SSRS reports using Visual Studio Business Intelligence Development System (VS-BIDS) and Microsoft Report Builder (MS-RB). The job requires extensive understanding of normalized relational database tables along with a thorough understanding of writing stored procedures.
Design and develop client reports that can be produced with minimal input by end-users.

Telecommuting workers improve employee productivity, happiness, retention


Stephanie Giovanetti, the mother of a 12-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter, lives in Boston, works for a non-profit in D.C., and doesn't feel like she has to choose between her job and her family.


"I feel privileged to have the job that I do and I can be the mom I want to be," Giovanetti said.


Giovanetti, 39, has worked remotely for the last 10 years — her daughter has always known a home-working mom. After the kids are in school the house is quiet, and with her instant message screen on her computer  open she feels connected to her co-workers who are more than 400 miles away.
Giovanetti is part of a growing trend of workers performing their jobs remotely — in cafes or on dining room tables at home.


In the United States the proportion of workers mainly working from home has almost doubled in the last 20 years. In 2010, according to the Census Bureau, 4.3 percent of the workforce worked mainly from home. The trend has been especially attractive for working moms and has enabled women to further enter the workforce while being able to actively raise their children. But combining work and home isn't new. In fact, remote work is just a further evolution in how and where work is done that over time has changed with technology and had major impacts on family dynamics.
