4 tips to better your work at home experience

Welcome to the wonderful world of working from home! I just want to toss a few things in here that I  found have helped me  in my work at home experience.
1. Make your area you are going to work, work for you  Set up your work space for what works for you, do you need a super quiet area? Do you need a ton of light? do you need things to keep you motivated? Set up your area to work for you.

2. Figure out your desk situation, make sure you have enough room for 2 or more monitors as a lot of jobs do require them, your drink of choice, a place to write to take notes, etc. A busy desk area makes your day harder.

3. You need  good solid chair you will be sitting in that day after day  Good lumbar support is a must Here is what I use

4. What motivates you? Why are you working are you working at home! Make a vision board with your why!

How to get Started with Upwork

Upwork is one of the largest global freelancing platforms where businesses and independent professionals come together for online work services. It has 12 million registered freelancers and 5 million registered clients.

Upwork use to be free to apply for jobs this no longer the case. They charge $0.15 charge per Connect. Connects are what you use to apply for jobs each job requires at least 2 connects

Also they have fees these fees are taken straight out of your check. This is not taxes so you still have to pay taxes consider this when you create your hourly rate. **
20% for the first $500 billed with the client
10% for lifetime billings with the client between $500.01 and $10,000
5% for lifetime billings with the client that exceed $10,000

How It Works: You create a profile on Upwork you choose your own hourly rate (companies can decide if they want to pay you your hourly rate of not). Once your profile is approved you can start applying for jobs. You use the search feature to find these jobs (advance search to narrow it down). You submit your cover letter to the job you would like. If the employer is interested they will contact you for an interview.

If your hired on a hourly contract you must use the Upwork time tracker to submit your hours. If you don't payment is not guaranteed. If you do payment is guaranteed.

Fixed price contracts are short projects that pay a flat rate (you have no guarantee with these)

Here are 7 tips how you can get work using Upwork even when you have no experience at all.

1. Have  a Good Profile Picture

One of the very first things that your clients will see from your profile is your picture. When you want to request work from someone, people will want to know your face and who you are. So upload and use a more professional picture of yourself. Unsmiling, grainy and poor quality picture will only show that you are unprofessional and nobody likes to work with people who are not professional.

Get a high-resolution head shot picture with a pleasant smile. And please, no naked shoulders, and try to wear professionally. Never be too shy to show your face when you are out there looking for jobs.

2. Your Language Skills are Important

In the online world, you will contact your clients through the power of words most of the time. And it has no exception when it comes to Upwork. Even if you have no experience, you should mind your language skills because they can win you the contract or worst, fail you.

Small things such as misspellings, texting lingo, and poor grammar are red flags to clients, and this is especially true when you are bidding for professional writing work. You should always check your spelling and read through what you have typed before you send out to your client. Use tools such as Grammarly to help you in this.

3. Create Samples

When you are totally new, you have no experience, no credibility, and no testimonials, but there is one very powerful tool you can create for yourself, and that is the sample of your work.

For example, if you want to be a writer, create a blog and publish some of your own articles there. When you request for jobs, you can use the articles on your blog as your samples. Better yet, you can contribute guest posts on other blogs and then use them as your samples. This will immediately increase your credibility, especially if the guest blogs are popular.

Well, this can apply to many services and not only to writing-related works. If you are into logo design, just design a few and publish them on your websites. You can showcase them to your clients to get them interested in your work.

4. Low-Paying Jobs Can be a Great Start

This is one of the mistakes that most beginners will do. They thought that low-paying jobs are not worthy because they have to spend a lot of time to get the work done, yet, the payment cannot justify their effort.

Never underestimate the low-paying jobs. In fact, most big businesses and long-term clients come from low-paying jobs. No one will award a $10,000 job to someone that they do not know or have no past experience with. This means that low-paying jobs are your best bet to connect with clients with a bigger budget. Start small and grow, so never mind the low-paying jobs, just do them.

5. Don’t Be Too Desperate

It is absolutely fine if nobody wants to hire you. The beginning is the toughest. And sometimes, you just do not want to show that you are desperate to get the job. Your desperation will scare your clients away.

Your clients will want to see you as in hot demand and successful. People will want to hire someone good and someone who can deliver a great work, not someone who is desperate.

6. Stay Active

If you are serious to make some money from Upwork, you need to take action and submit your proposals. Do not think that once you have created a nice and great profile, clients will come to you automatically. It does not work that way. You need to go and put your name out there to win the contracts.

Winning a contract in Upwork is a numbers game. The more prospective clients you contact and propose, the more likely you are going to get the work. Somehow, somewhere and someone will want what you have to offer. By the way, never forget to improve as you progress. Learn to create a better proposal and customize it to fit your client’s requirements.

7. Build Your Portfolio

One of the most important keys to success in the world of freelancing is to create your own portfolio. For example, if you want to get jobs on optimizing the search engine for a website, and if you have the Google search engine optimization certification, people will want to give you work.

Credibility and a strong portfolio count. Yes, it may be difficult when you have zero experience, but that does not mean that you cannot build your portfolio from scratch. When you successfully completed a job, request a testimonial from your client. Many freelancers start by picking smaller jobs so that once completed successfully, they can add a testimonial to their victory list. And you should do the same.

Start with one service, make sure it’s something you’re really good at. Fill out your FAQ’s so buyers understand the limitations around your service.
Take every project that you feel you can actually deliver on and get 5 stars.
Make your prices competitive with the competition. The goal is to move up the levels as quickly as possible. Then you can increase your prices. It can happen very fast so don’t over think having your prices low in the beginning

Now that you know what you should do to get work from Upwork even when you have no experience. The best advice is to just take action and do it. It is absolutely fine if you fail to win any contract, but never give up and keep learning until you landed your first job. And things will just get better from there.

I've been using upwork for years now and for you to not be scammed, you have to make sure that all your communications are inside upwork. The contract must also be inside upwork, and don't start any work without contract

5 Places To Sell Your Stuff Online Besides Ebay

When you’re getting out of debt, Dave Ramsey  says to sell so much stuff the kids think they’re next! But how do you make sure you’re getting the most you can for your stuff?

One of the easiest ways to earn money online that just about anyone can manage is selling your stuff. We all have stuff we no longer want or need  hanging around in our homes .  Is your trash someone else's treasure?

And if you don't have your own stuff to sell, it's pretty easy to visit thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales, estate sales, and more to find things on the cheap that you know you could sell for a little (or a lot) more to make a quick profit.

So with that being said, below I've come up with a list of 5 places besides Ebay and Facebook marketplace you could consider using to start selling your stuff online. Many of these you've probably heard of, but hopefully some will be new and interesting.

Mercari

Mercari is a great site — I've bought some things on there myself. But it's not as popular as some of the sites we've listed above. This means that if you list items here, it may take longer for them to sell.

On the upside, Mercari has lower fees than most (just ten percent of the listing price).

Poshmark

If you have clothes you need to get rid of, Poshmark is going to be one of your best options. It's a very popular app for used clothing, shoes, and accessories. And as a seller on Poshmark, you don't even have to have a computer. You can upload your items directly to Poshmark via the app, complete with pictures. If you sell over $15, Poshmark does take a 20 percent commission off your earnings. This is quite a lot. Still, Poshmark is a great way to quickly unload some of your used clothing. Go here to sign up as a Poshmark seller.

 Decluttr

Decluttr is a great platform to use if you have used books, video games, DVDs, CDs, or various tech devices lying around your house that you no longer want or need.

You are not selling your items to individuals. You're selling them directly to Decluttr. You share with them what items you want to sell, and they'll give you an instant price quote. If you're happy with the quote, they'll pay shipping for you to send the items to them. Then you get paid!

How to start an Amazon FBA reseller business with $100

Glambot

Do you have any makeup or skincare items taking up space in your bathroom drawers that you no longer want or need? It's understandable you'd think that stuff was fit for the trash. But you'd be wrong.

Glambot is a site that will actually buy your gently used or new-but-never-used makeup from you. You just let them know what you have, they'll give you an estimate, and then they will send you a shipping label to get the items to them. If your items are what you say they are and in the condition you described, you get paid!

Glambot will not accept false lashes, skincare, makeup bags or items with reusable applicators (ie. lipgloss, liquid lipstick, mascara, liquid eyeliner pens, etc.) unless you work in the Beauty Industry.

 Listia

Listia makes it possible for you to sell your unwanted items and get free stuff in exchange for those items.

How it works is pretty simple. You just list your used items (all kinds of things are accepted). When other people buy your items, you receive a virtual currency called “Ink.” Then, you can use the Ink to shop on Listia for yourself, purchasing items other people have listed.

Mystery shopper scam involving Walmart gift cards

A secret shopper scam is no mystery to a Virginia man, and he is reaching out to warn consumers before they get ripped off, WWBT reported.

Brad Beatty said he was sent a priority overnight envelope containing a $2,900 cashiers check. The note in the letter congratulated him for being selected for Secret Shopper, a program that rewards shoppers for spending the money and then sending in a survey about experience.

As Beatty warns, there is no such thing as free cash.“Nobody is going to send you $2,900 to do them a favor,” Beatty told WWBT. “They're making you feel like you're doing a deal and getting paid for it, but you're not, because they're going to take that money right away.

“When the bank finds that the check is (a) fraud, they're going to take it out of your savings, and you're out of the money.”The letter instructed Beatty to keep $400 and use $2,500 to buy five $500 Walmart gift cards, WWBT reported. Then he was told to take a picture of those cards, peel the silver scratch-off from the back, and then email the photos along with a survey about his shopping experience.Beatty said he received a text message that said he would receive a $100 bonus if he completed his assignment in a certain time frame. He said he was not sure how someone got his mailing address and cellphone number, but added that he has been contacted several time since the envelope showed up at his home.

“If they give out 10,000. I bet 50 to 100 people will do it and lose money,” Beatty told WWBT. “I don't want to see anyone lose their money”A search on the Better Business Bureau's scam tracker shows there have been 750 reported “Secret Shopper” scams in the United States. On Walmart's website, there is a page dedicated to Fraud Alerts -- one of them warns against mystery shoppers. Walmart says it doesn’t “utilize these services or hire associates to perform services on behalf of other retailers or companies.” Beatty preaches caution.“Just be very careful and check things out before you go cashing checks,” he told WWBT.

Fake Check Scams and Work at home jobs

How Fake Check Scams Work

Basically, the person running the scam convinces the victim to cash a check and then send, via wire transfer, a portion of the money to another location. (The portion kept by the victim is payment of a commission or prize.)
However, the check (or money order) is a very convincing fake, and it will take the victim’s bank some time to discover that the check is no good. U.S. banks are required to make funds available within a few days, but it can take weeks for a fraudulent check to be discovered. However, wire transfers happen almost immediately. So the money that has left the victims account is long gone by the time it is discovered that the check is fake.

What a Fake Check Scam Looks Like

The variation in these scams come in the reason the victim is asked to cash and then send funds. Many of these are job-related. Beware of these:
  • Mystery shopping—Mystery shopping can be legitimate; in fact, it often is. But there is a scam in which a check is sent to cover the cost of purchasing and returning goods, then you are supposed to wire back the money, keeping your cut.
  • Payment processing jobs—These jobs can look very real when you apply. You are processing payments for people in other countries. You may even be asked to open a business checking account in your location, but it is in your name and you are on the hook when it is overdrawn.
  • Lottery, sweepstakes and inheritance windfalls—You’ve won. A check arrives but the scammer asks that an amount must be sent in for taxes and fees. Seems reasonable but the check was a fake.
  • Auction/purchase overpayment—Never accept payment for more than the agreed upon price. This is a very common way to defraud. When you refund the overpayment but keep the agreed-upon amount, later you may find out the check bounced.
  • Rental schemes—A new roommate or tenant offers to send you the rent and then some if you forward along a payment to the movers or someone else. Guess who is left with no roommate and an overdrawn account?
  • Reshipping jobs—This involves receiving goods to be shipped elsewhere.

Money Laundering and Check Cashing Scams

In addition to losing your money in these kinds of check-cashing schemes, it is possible the victim could go to jail. In reshipping scams or payment processing scams, you could actually receive the money agreed upon, but only because you are participating in money laundering and/or selling stolen goods. In money laundering, the payment might come into the victim’s account via wire or online transfer.

How to Protect Yourself From Check Fraud

It’s simple. Do not cash checks for people you do not know. Do not wire money to people you do not know. There are no legitimate reasons for this.
