Are you thinking of writing a children's book?

Marie Tracy is an active contributor to our side hustle group She wrote a children's book called  Magical Birthday Fairy: A Family Tradition and now is sharing her experience and even created a step by step course.

Marie shared....

I’m a new children’s author of the book Magical Birthday Fairy.  I found the process of self-publishing very difficult. It was frustrating and extremely time consuming.

Then when the pandemic hit and the world shut down, I lost my full time  job. So I decided to use to the to finally write and publish my first book.  (Yeah!)

After I published my book, I had so many ask how I did it that I decided to share the steps in an online course.

I’m new to  course creation and will initially share the course in a  facebook group (sharing info in social learning units).  I share the exact steps I took and a step by step check list to follow.  In addition, I share a list of all the expenses, resources I found and a simple to follow guide to follow.  The course is written text only.

September 2021 2021 Side Hustlers Income Reports

I love when side hustles share their income especially when they are getting out of debt!  There is a way to make extra money each money when you are hustling!

Here are Dave Ramsey side hustlers that are working to get out of debt and work on financial peace!  They have shared their journeys in our facebook group!
Whoa... I think it's been like three months since I posted my income updates.

I have basically quit working Qkids because the timing isn't working out with my schedule anymore. Same with Mturk - I get interrupted too much while trying to work it. So on September 8th I decided to join Doordash and see what I could do with it. I'm averaging $23/hr with it. It's super low stress 95% of the time and I absolutely love it. The best I've done with it is $32/hr and the worst was $11/hr and that was only one time. I can't WAIT to see what I do with it this month! I wish I'd started a long time ago. I used all that money to pay for my son's birthday party (at a local trampoline park, so you know how pricey that is), dinner for the sleepover that happened that night, plus dessert stuff, plus eating out later to celebrate his birthday, and my daughter's gymnastics tuition. Woot woo

A few questions

how is qkids these days

I was fortunate that they renewed my contract. Lots of people were let go, and some just jumped ship.

are you working the door dash bonuses

I haven't gotten any bonuses yet! I'm hoping since I'm only a couple of weeks in that I'll see some soon!

a few other chimed in about DD bonuses

The one I like is the 300 extra for completing 25 rides   I make sure to block my weekend off and do the 25 rides. They pay you the bonus instantly too soon as you hit 25.

Tiffany shared
We are back over $3K in side hustle income!!!!! This has been tough. Andrew was worried about this month. Door Dash has been very slow and many nights were not that great. Tiffany's business continues to grow and generate income. We are continuing on and paying down the larger debts.
💃🕺
As Dave says - When you are in Baby Step 2 you work 9-5 and 5-9. We get off work and start our side hustles. You can clearly see this hard work is paying off.

7 Tips for negotiating hybrid or remote work with your boss

Alot of people have working remote since the pandemic started in March of 2020. Now that COVID-19 vaccines are widely available and lockdown restrictions are being lifted, many employers are calling their teams back to the office, while many employees hope to continue to work remotely.

here are 7 ways  to negotiate a work-from-home position.

 1. Review company policy: "Does the company offer remote work? If they do, you're in luck. That makes it a much easier conversation. If they don't, you have to really prepare for a more complicated situation,"

2. Assess your job function: "Look at your work," . "What are the hours you work? What's your job function? How do you communicate with the rest of employees, including your manager? You want to put together a plan that could work for you."

3. Meet with your manager:   Setting a meeting well in advance: "Be prepared with your sheet of paper ready to go, talking through the points."

Here's how to ask your manager if you can Work at Home

4. Consider how working remotely will benefit the company: "This is not about convincing your boss that you need to work from home. This is about convincing your boss that you working from home is going to benefit the company," adding as an example, "Maybe you have a two-hour commute and you could work during that two-hour commute."

5. Be prepared to hear no and have options: "If you hear no, you have a couple of options. One, you can offer to do this temporarily. Let's see how one month goes and see if that works or not. Two, you might have to be willing to leave your job for something else if work from home is not a possibility for your company,"

6. Be prepared for restrictions and changes: "A lot of companies that are now offering work-from-home say you still have to be in a specific city, state, or country, location, [and] that can make an impact,"  noting that work from home  policies may also be subject to change over the next weeks, months and years.

7. Don't lose out on face time: "Face time is always important when it comes to the workplace,"  "Make sure you're communicating still with your managers and the people who will give you promotions in the future."

How to get started with writing a book

If you have ever thought of writing a book you will want to check out this podcast to see if it for you.  This might be directed as non fiction self help business type of book but if you have romance or childrens book check this out with best selling author Gabby  Bernstein

Get ready to access behind the scenes tips for book writing success. If you’re considering writing a book - whether it’s through traditional publishing or self-publishing -

How to overcome the dreaded writer’s block

The first is that you must, must, must, must have a core message. You and I have worked on this. We really dialed yours down for your book. And I'm real—I'm a boss b-i-t-you-know-what when it comes to core message, because I won't stand for someone not being grounded in what their book is about. You know when someone asks you, like, you said this, like, when someone says, like, “What's your course about?” And you’re like, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, and you just aren't grounded in it? It’s the same thing with a book because someone says, “What's your book about?” and you’re like, “Well, it's about the esoteric changes in my inner landscape.” And it's like, shut the f up. What are you—? And then it makes the person that's talking uncomfortable, it makes the person that's listening feel uncomfortable because, like, “I have no idea what you just said.” So it's all about boiling it down, boiling it down.

Ways to think about turning your digital course into a book (it can be done!)

Write a book proposal no matter if you are self-publishing or going down the traditional path

Tips for self publishing

The self-publishing path is epic. I highly recommend the self-publishing path. What I often say is don't wait to be picked. If you are not getting feedback from an agent, when you're not getting any feedback from a publisher, okay, whatever. Their loss. Go self-publish. The beautiful thing about self-publishing is that once you go sell a bunch of books and your self-published book, you can then sell it to a publisher.

How to make money as a mystery shopper

Mystery shoppers go by a couple different names – evaluators, secret shoppers — but, regardless of the name, the job’s the same: mystery shoppers document their experiences to help businesses who deal with the public a lot.

Shoppers  can score everything from free food to extra money when they work for a mystery shopping company.   I was able to get deli meat for several as part of mystery shopping gig that I would do weekly for basically timing the time it took from the time I got in line until I got my meat.  Plus an additional fee  I was able to take out one of the kids on regular basis to local ice cream family friendly restaurant where I need to time each part of the process and food quality.   Almost getting paid for a Yelp review!

Each shop requires a report to be filled out. Some places require more information than others, and some require you to note names and exact greetings, etc. It is very helpful to take notes as soon as the shop is complete so you have the information handy when you complete the report. Each report can take from 15-30 minutes depending on the depth of information required for each shop.

Mystery shopping is not steady income but if you not going out of your way  it may be worth your time  Most companies will pay by paypal so make sure you have an account set up.

Here are 5 companies that you should check out

And on top of in-person gigs, Sinclair offers video mystery shopping to clients, too, complete with a hidden camera.
