How to package baked goods to sell at farmer's market

 A follower asked

I want to sell my baked goods at the local farmers market. How would you suggest I package them?

Rory   answered

Get some a large plastic clamshell  containers

Jessica answered

You can get cute containers and put a pretty label on them. Even some twine/ribbon if you really want to be fancy! Nothing too crazy because hopefully you'll be making lots more! Just be sure to label everything properly and you're good to go!

You won't make any money if you go over the top, just keep telling yourself that. You're trying to make money. You can go over the top when you're making enough sales to raise the bar, you know what I mean? Be sure to figure in ALL you costs when you set your prices. I've wasted so much money with projects like this, so I'm kind of passionate about it,

We sell homemade marshmallows and cotton candy at our local market. 100% check your cottage laws first. We have rules about what is required for labels. We put a lot of thought into our packaging. It's a little more than what some others use for marshmallows but we get at least 4-5 comments on our packaging at each event/market. People buy extra to give as gifts. We have people think we have an actual storefront because they say it's so professional. It's worth it to us to spend a little more. I would check your local market and see what others are doing and if it won't eat too much into your profit then make it better. We use bakery boxes for our marshmallow brownies instead of plastic and they look so much better my opinion.

Younger Millennial inspires with her side hustles

Kara  shared in our group her side hustles over the years!  Hopefully this will inspire you to find a passion and some good ideas.

Here are some lessons I’ve learnt from each business I’ve started and I’ve self funded all of them.

My names Kara   I’ve started lots of small businesses over the last few  years. Here’s a summary of my main ones, hope it inspires and pushes you to start a business.

#1. At 21 I started an eyelash extension business. It still runs today, very profitable, great client base and customer retention. Earning $80 for 1.5hr of work at 21 made me realize that I could never work for someone else every day of my life. Now it’s $100 and full sets take my around 1hr.

#2. My next business was period subscription box, it was called Your Monthly  and was basically a box that contained pads, tampons, chocolates, candies , period underwear,  pain relief, hot chocolate, tea  and a small gift (sourced from local  Etsy sellers, eg. Facemasks, candles ) this business taught me how to work with social media influencers, managing stock, working with wholesalers and (most importantly) profit margins!!

#3. Drop shipping and importing products. This business taught me how to use Shopify, I learnt soooo much. From dealing with  suppliers  to collaborating with influencers. Continued to grow my social media marketing skills and ability to target my customers.

#4. My balloon decorating business. I saw a gap in my home town market and ran with it. We started with helium bunches and grew into an event decorating monster! We do massive balloon garlands, now have 3 flower walls and heaps of structures. When I first started this business I didn’t ever considered needing a van, but working 2 months I brought used one  and it’s been crazy ever since. Great profit margins, and we KILL it on social media. (All that learning from previous businesses 😉😉)

I wanted to post this to show you that you can do anything you want. I’ve never feared failure. I love learning and seeing ideas i have in my head, grow into profitable businesses.

My Airbnb listing grossed $2353.00
I'd have to subtract for utilities, lawn maintenance and turnovers, but the gross amount is easy enough to get.

I got in April, all payments were offset. I am satisfied with it and I was able to pay off an additional $700 in various debts as well as pay one completely off.

Marie Tracy is an active contributor to our side hustle group She wrote a children's book called  Magical Birthday Fairy: A Family Tradition and now is sharing her experience and even created a step by step course.

Marie shared....

I’m a new children’s author of the book Magical Birthday Fairy.  I found the process of self-publishing very difficult. It was frustrating and extremely time consuming.

Then when the pandemic hit and the world shut down, I lost my full time  job. So I decided to use to the to finally write and publish my first book.  (Yeah!)

After I published my book, I had so many ask how I did it that I decided to share the steps in an online course.

I’m new to  course creation and will initially share the course in a  facebook group (sharing info in social learning units).  I share the exact steps I took and a step by step check list to follow.  In addition, I share a list of all the expenses, resources I found and a simple to follow guide to follow.  The course is written text only.

September 2021 2021 Side Hustlers Income Reports

I love when side hustles share their income especially when they are getting out of debt!  There is a way to make extra money each money when you are hustling!

Here are Dave Ramsey side hustlers that are working to get out of debt and work on financial peace!  They have shared their journeys in our facebook group!
Whoa... I think it's been like three months since I posted my income updates.

I have basically quit working Qkids because the timing isn't working out with my schedule anymore. Same with Mturk - I get interrupted too much while trying to work it. So on September 8th I decided to join Doordash and see what I could do with it. I'm averaging $23/hr with it. It's super low stress 95% of the time and I absolutely love it. The best I've done with it is $32/hr and the worst was $11/hr and that was only one time. I can't WAIT to see what I do with it this month! I wish I'd started a long time ago. I used all that money to pay for my son's birthday party (at a local trampoline park, so you know how pricey that is), dinner for the sleepover that happened that night, plus dessert stuff, plus eating out later to celebrate his birthday, and my daughter's gymnastics tuition. Woot woo

A few questions

how is qkids these days

I was fortunate that they renewed my contract. Lots of people were let go, and some just jumped ship.

are you working the door dash bonuses

I haven't gotten any bonuses yet! I'm hoping since I'm only a couple of weeks in that I'll see some soon!

a few other chimed in about DD bonuses

The one I like is the 300 extra for completing 25 rides   I make sure to block my weekend off and do the 25 rides. They pay you the bonus instantly too soon as you hit 25.

Tiffany shared
We are back over $3K in side hustle income!!!!! This has been tough. Andrew was worried about this month. Door Dash has been very slow and many nights were not that great. Tiffany's business continues to grow and generate income. We are continuing on and paying down the larger debts.
💃🕺
As Dave says - When you are in Baby Step 2 you work 9-5 and 5-9. We get off work and start our side hustles. You can clearly see this hard work is paying off.
